Shortbread Cookies

Shortbread Cookies are cookies of Scottish origin, but also quite common in various part of Canada due to the number of Canadians with Scottish descent.

From what I can tell, these used to be called Shortening Bread.

Shortbread Cookies are one of my favorite desserts.

You can cook shortbread cookies with the following recipe....

4. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.

5. Place cookies in oven for 15-20 minutes (based on 24 cookies)

Song

There's actually a song about shortbread cookies. (I remember my Dad singing it... I think he was trying to be funny :-) )

I've heard more than one version of this song. The version I first heard is...

Baby loves shortening, shortening, shortening.

Baby loves shortening, shortening bread.

Baby loves shortening, shortening, shortening.

Baby loves shortening, shortening bread.

I think the original version of this song is....

Mama's little baby loves shortening, shortening.

Mama's little baby loves shortening bread.

Mama's little baby loves shortening, shortening.

Mama's little baby loves shortening bread.

I've heard both versions sung to the same melody.
