Topic: Pari

Summary

The Pari (or in Persian: پري) are creatures described in Aryan legends and stories.

Pari as Genies

In Iran, Iranians tend to consider the Pari to be Genies.

Pari and Fairy

There is a striking resemblance between the Aryan stories of the Pari and the stories of the Fairy of the Celts. The 2 names even seem incredibly similar, and may be cognates.

Aryan Pari Legends

One story told to children in Iran about the Pari declares that one should perform a certain verbal ritual before pouring hot water, so that you do not unintentionally harm the Pari that might be playing in the area, by accidentally pouring the hot water on them. Whether this is to be taken literally, or as an allegory or mechanism used to encourage children to be careful when pouring hot water is up to debate.

Pari as a Name

Pari is also used as a girl's name in Iran.
