Summary

HTTP is the main protocol on which the web is based.

In terms of the ISO/OSI Network Model, HTTP has become the defacto presentation layer of the Internet.

Lately there have been numerous people touting REST as a new paradigm for web development. However, REST is just HTTP being used how it is suppose to be used.

HTTP Response Status Codes

Each and every HTTP response given by an HTTP server includes a status code. These HTTP 1.1 status code definitions can be seen in RFC 2616 Section 10.

Protocols Built on HTTP

A number of protocols a built on top of HTTP. These include: BitTorrent and Gnutella.
